The Sea Monkey project is progressing nicely. We've pretty much got the nursery done with the exception of hanging a couple of shelves. I need to clean a few last items out of the closet but other than that I am ready for baby showers to start filling in the gaps for the things we still need.
I'm blessed to be having more than one baby shower, but I guess that is fitting since we are having more than one baby, right? For those that have asked, I am registered at Babies R Us and Target. And yes, I do realize I registered for four car seats. The plan is for me to drop the kids off in the morning and Phill to pick them up so we each need to have a set of two seats each. I did put thought into that and didn't count incorrectly, despite my Brighton High School math education!
On July 1st we found out that the Sea Monkeys were both little girl monkeys! We had a great time telling the parents. The night before I had help baking four cakes, two blue and two pink. (Thank you Lena and Marilyn!!) I frosted them white on the outside with green and yellow frosting and had them marked which were which. When both sets of parents arrived for dinner that night each set got their own little cake to cut into to reveal the flavor of one of the babies. Phill tortured them for a good 20 minutes before finally giving in and letting them cut the cakes before dinner. Karen and Jim cut theirs first and the amount of screaming in that kitchen when they reveled their pink cake was amazing!! My mom FINALLY cut in to her cake and after convincing herself that she had a blue cake saw a pink one instead for hers. The screaming continued. It was a really fun way to tell them and something I'm sure none of them will ever forget either! It'll be a good story to tell the twins when they get older.
Below are a few updated pictures of the nursery with the green wall and a few more decorations in it. I'll have to take more with the wood pieces that Phill made up on the wall but I'll include that in the final "We're done!!" post!
Phill took my picture this morning before work so we have a recent belly picture. Today, I'm 19 weeks and 3 days. For a twin due date, we're more than half way there. Still anxiously awaiting July 1st to get here since that is our next ultrasound and we should be finding out the flavor of the babies that day, as long as they cooperate!!
While I'm handing out props for the nursery today since I'm on a roll with Phill's parents planting the design seed and Phill himself building the cribs and putting in cameras in the room I have to take a minute and give a HUGE thank you to the two people who have made the room even happen.
Finding out you're having twins is both an exciting and scary moment. You're excited to know you're building your family all at once and it's not a typical thing. But at the same time your eyes grow big and you suddenly think two car seats, two mouths to feed, two sets of onsies, two cribs...twice the fun, but twice the responsibility.
Right away when I started shopping for the nursery, I kept in mind that while furniture would be a huge expense, there were many other expenses that needed to be taken in to account. I first looked at Pottery Barn Kids to set the bar for what NOT to spend! Then with the help of GiGi (my mom) I was directed towards JCPenny's website. Who knew JCPenny had such great priced furniture!
Anyway, always one to get my sister's opinion, I emailed a link to my sister Amy and the next thing I knew, her hubby Kevin called to surprise me that if I really really liked the set and this is what I wanted, it was ordered and on it's way! Aunt Amy and Uncle Kevin bought the Sea Monkeys their room!! Needless to say I was floored and still AM floored! It was a huge help for them to give us such a generous gift and really helped jump start our excitement. I know twins are going to be tough and certainly expensive, but this gift from my family reminded me that we've got help and that these two little monkeys are very blessed to have a loving family that all lives very close by.
Thank you so much Amy & Kevin! We can't begin to thank you enough for helping our family by giving the twins the beds where they will dream and sleep and the room where they will grow and learn!
So I just realized I have not yet give props where they are due. Since Phill and I don't yet know the baby flavor's yet, we have been stuck in a holding pattern trying to figure out how we were going to decorate the nursery. We are also wanting to keep it somewhat neutral for resale value when we put our house on the market in a year or so, but we also want it to be fun for the kids.
Well, last weekend we went out to Phill's parents house and they surprised us with a nice little gift for the Sea Monkeys! They were two little wooden cut out's of monkeys that you hang on the wall. At that moment it clicked in my head...why don't we do a monkey theme? We can decorate most of the room with things we put into it, rather than painting a theme on the wall and still keep the room neutral for future buyers! So away I went researching the room design!
I found an adorable monkey theme at BabysRUs and have since added all the monkey items to our registry! Giving credit where credit is due, thanks MeeMa and PeePa for finally giving us the design idea we needed to put the nursery together!! WE LOVE IT!
Yesterday turned out to be a pretty great Monday! After work I attended my first Darling Doubles meeting and met a room full of new women who either have twins or are pregnant with twins. I already met one gal that lives really close to me and she gave me a TON of great information about a local mom’s group in Reunion close to the house that I’ll likely get involved with, too. The room was full of people my age and as I looking around the room I felt like I was looking at my new group of friends.
Then I got home! What a topper to the end of my day! It was after 9p because the meeting ran long and I came home to Phill sitting on the bed watching TV. He flipped the channel to show me a video image of the nursery on our bedroom TV screen! Amazing! But as I looked closer, I realized that the cribs had been set up! He was so proud of himself and I was so touched! I went running down the hall in excitement to see what he had done! I am and have been nesting but it was really a great thing to come home to – seeing Phill nesting a bit as well.
Thanks honey! You really made my day and I’m so excited!! I love you!! You have been and always are Phillnominal!
Below is a music clip from what I've got on my iPod right now. I'm sure it's on many others and I know it's all over the radio as well. Enjoy!!
The Sea Monkeys are growing like crazy! As of today we’re 16 weeks and 4 days old, they are 4.6” each in length and today’s heartbeats were 140-145 on one and 150-155 on the other. We still don’t know their flavors yet but we have the appointment set for the ultrasound and we should know on July 1st! As long as they cooperate of course!
The joy of pregnancy is starting to finally settle in. I had a really bad bout with nausea from week 7 to week 14 but over the last couple of weeks, we’ve really slowed down in that area and now I’ve moved on to the heartburn/headache stage! I’m stretching inside which is a really weird feeling! But despite that I am eating good portions, I’ve only gained 4 lbs. total which the doctor confirms is a ideal weight to be at right now!
Phill left today for his solo trip to Buena Vista. He and I both decided it’s probably time to lay off the Jeeping and since they were tent camping with no facilities, I opted to stay home and rest for the weekend.
Below is a belly picture for progress tracking! I’m still feeling fairly fashionable despite my growing bump thanks to the preggo couture that my sister set me up with. I’m going to try to use my blog more to document the Sea Monkeys progress, so we’ll see how I do!
I'm sure that this isn't the 4th revision of this property since over the years Phill's parents have made countless changes, but since the February 4, 2008 fire and rebuild thereafter marks the most dramatic revision, I figured we'd call it 4.0.
Below is a slide show that Phill made up showing the after fire and after build changes to his parents house.
