Many of you that know me know that this coming Wednesday, October 31st I’ll be going in for a lateral release knee surgery. Yes, I’m looking forward to it, but the recovery time is 6 -8 weeks and it’s going to be a tough time and the key to this surgery’s success is the intense physical therapy afterwards. I expect to be in a wheelchair for at least 2 weeks and crutches the entire month of November. It is not fun, but badly needed as I’ve been in a tremendous amount of pain for months now. I had this surgery 17 years ago on my right knee as a child so I know what I’m getting into.
Phill has a pretty good idea too, since we have talked about nothing else for the past few months. He has been great, getting me Advil every night and helping me with ice packs and sonic therapy.
So this past weekend was really our last weekend to do anything really fun before I’m down for the count. We ho-hummed around about what to do, go to a Halloween party, go to a movie, and we finally settled on spending last night with our great friends, Chuck and Red to help them celebrate their own 7 year wedding anniversary.
When I started my car to warm up the heater last night, Phill walked over to me and said “why don’t you shut that off.”
“Why?” I said, just as I looked in the mirror to see a bunch of our neighbors walking down the street and lights from what appeared to be a limo? I looked up at my friend Red to see a huge face of excitement and when I turned around, there parked in front of our cute little house was a black stretch Lincoln Navigator limo and a nicely dressed man at the door.
Never have I had anyone do something so romantic and sweet! I never saw this coming in a million years! Silliest thing, really. You make a phone call and a guy comes out with a big ol’ car! But the best part was that Red and I felt like the most important women to these guys and for a night, we were stars!
Dinner at 3 Son’s Italian Restaurant, sipping on wine and hanging out with our close friends was a dream come true and the best way to spend our last night of non-handicap normalcy. Thank you so much guys! Last night was truly unforgettable!
