Monica being the name of my navigational voice, not the car. Monica was the voice for the Pioneer Z1 I had in my Mitsubishi Montero just prior to Chad, the navi voice in the Pioneer FB900 I had to replace the Z1 with. This past Monday, Phill and I traded in my (and Chad) for a new 2008 Ford EDGE. At first I was not sure about it, but after driving it for one day and installing the navigation software, there will be no getting Sumi the Montero OR Chad back!
Phill calls Monica a terrorist and he can’t stand her, but she is MUCH better than Chad was and I’m so happy to have her back! I appreciate the technology and I’ll confess it…I’m a gadget girl! Monica is better both in accuracy and user interface, so I’m happy to have her back. Pioneer NV1 is the format Ford chose to put in my EDGE and yes, we did get the Microsoft SYNC package with it.
I’m still reading the 2” thick owner’s manual on exactly how to use all of this fabulous technology together, but with the absence of the book for the last two days and having to just wing it, I was able to easily guess the voice recognition commands, set up by phone via Bluetooth (though I did need to upgrade the firmware in my Samsung i760 to make it work properly) and sync my iPod quickly. I tried to tell TGIWF that I’d blocked some time for him to read the book and teach me how to use the car, but he wasn’t having it!
Since I’m very familiar with the Pioneer Navi technology, I can already report on that being a very good GPS system. As for the vehicle itself, it is a very comfortable car to drive and ride in. The plain dashboard design that Ford went with for a while has been updated with just enough pleasing things to look at to keep me happy. And from what I hear from our buddy Chris who works at a Ford Dealership, he never see’s the EDGE in the maintenance shop for anything other than an oil change!
Check back for feedback on the SYNC technology after I get a chance to really learn how to use it. Until then, I’m taking suggestions on what to name the car, since I haven’t done that yet.

This note reminds me that I need to give Chris a call to get Heather's van in for service.
