Since this past Monday, the girls have been going to a new school much closer to our house. This means I gain a few more minutes in the morning, right? Not exactly. Since the girls are now SOUTH of where I need to go, I’m now struggling with the best way to get from Chamber’s & 104th to Boulder WITHOUT using E-470 or the nightmare know as Hwy-36. So I’ve tried a couple of different routes to zigzag my way out west and so far my drive somehow got WAY longer.
It also got more annoying. The last three day’s no matter which route I’ve tried I’ve always ended up behind the lady doing her makeup in the brown Honda. While I do see this kind of multitasking often on my morning drive to work, this gal has been a consistent figure for three days straight. She’s always just in front of me at the corner turning left onto S. Boulder Road and all three times she has been putting on her mascara! By the next stop light, she is putting on her lipstick!
Now, I’m going to go out on a limb here and wager a bet that her knowledge that she needed to be AT that corner AT that time is not news to her since we’ve both hit it together at the same time. So I’m thinking that this is more than just a “I woke up late” issue and that she really thinks putting on her makeup in the car is ok.
Phill will beg to argue with me, but for the most part I really am a low maintenance girl. I can wake up, shower, put on my makeup, dry my hair and dress all in just under 30 minutes. And that’s with a leisurely shower. I know my goal time for getting out the door in the morning is 6:30a so I work backwards from that point.
- 6:30a – Back out of drive-way
- 6:29a – Kiss Phill good-bye after he’s kissed the girls in the car good-bye
- 6:25a – Load one baby in car. Phill typically has the other baby
- 6:20a – Get coffee (This takes 5 minutes because I make my Latte at home & save $4)
- 6:15a – Dress Baby B
- 6:10a – Dress Baby A
- 6:00a – Finish packing girls bag for school, load laptop, load purse all into the car
- 5:30a – Wake, Shower, Make-up, Hair, Dress
Easy enough. I NEED TO WAKE UP AT 5:30a! Now there is a lot of fluff time added into this morning schedule. If I’m running a little behind I can easily go into speed gear and cut off a few minutes here and there in this routine. But one thing I’ve learned since having the twins is that humans do better when they are on a schedule and know what to expect. Case in point – the girls know daddy brings them their bottle at 6:00a every morning, their bodies know it’s coming so they don’t cry for it. They patiently wait for it. Same goes for breakfast, lunch and snack. By dinner they’re losing steam and they get a bit fussy five minutes before 6:00p.
Now I’m guessing this gal doesn’t have kids because she doesn’t have a MOM car. No, I don’t mean she doesn’t have a minivan. I mean she doesn’t have a car seat in the backseat of her car and there is no mess back there AT ALL. So if she has kids, they don’t go in that car. And I’m also going to guess that she doesn’t have to drop two kids off at daycare before she heads out. I’m also going to reasonably assume she doesn’t live any farther east than I do because let’s be honest, there ain’t nothin’ out there other than the airport and we all know the only reason WHY I drive that far is because TGIWF makes it worth it for me. No one else in their right mind would drive that far every day.
So let’s take another look at our schedule up above, shall we? I don’t add in the 15 minutes it takes me to get to daycare, to drop off and to get back on the road, so let’s start with 15. Take out 5 minutes for baby loading, that’s 20. Take out 5 min/ea for dressing girls, that’s another 10 minutes, so that’s 30. And another 10 minutes for packing the girls lunch. I’ve just bought this lady 40 minutes that I tack on to what I do to get out the door. That doesn’t even take into account the extra distance east that I’m assuming I have on her. I’m guessing if this lady woke up at 6:00a, she’d have the extra time to get all her stuff done INCLUDING MAKE-UP before she gets into her car in the morning. Maybe even later then that!? So why isn’t she getting out of bed in time to get her make-up done before she leaves??!!!
Our new daycare morning teacher Beth said to me this morning “you must have to get up so early to do this!” I do. I get up at 5:30a and typically I go to bed between 9p – 10a. That’s not incredibly unreasonable or EARLY to bed. I get enough sleep that when 5:30a rolls around I don’t have dark circles under my eyes.
So, dear lady in the Honda. GET UP OUT OF BED EARLIER! If I can do it, you can to. I would hate for the guy I caught plucking his nose hairs to lose track of the road and accidently rear-end you even though we’re all at a stop light and you have your mascara stick poke you in the eye. Ya, I really did see a guy plucking his nose hair. You know who you are. Guy in the blue Toyota 4-Runner. EWW!!!
